FSU Neuromodulation PTSD Study ๐ง
This study is for individuals aged 18-65 with PTSD focusing on using neuromodulation to treat PTSD symptoms. Compensation is provided for completion of the study. Participants first undergo Virtual Reality Guided Mindfulness; treatment is once per day for 10 days (two weeks). If symptoms persist, participants then move on to two rounds of accelerated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment. Treatment is 5 TMS sessions per day for 5 days, with one follow up visit one week after treatment. For the first round of treatment, participants are randomized into active or sham TMS. For the second round, all participants receive active TMS. All participants will receive active TMS treatment. There are three brief follow up visits post treatment.
Holidays For Heroes ๐
My radio must be broken because I am not getting any interest in the Holidays for Heroes program. Are you telling me in this economy thereโs only ONE Veteran who needs a Christmas tree??? I have 39 trees who need a new home on 30 November.
COMMANDERS, where are the Vets who need a Christmas tree. I know they are out there.
To reserve a Christmas tree, please see below.
To claim a tree, please email a copy of your Veteranโs proof of service to hq@commanderscoalition.org. Please specify if you would like a small or medium sized tree. First come, First served basis.
All images received to validate Veteran status will be deleted from our email system after the event.
The distribution will take place at the Vietnam Veterans of America Parking lot beside Lake Ella on November 30th between 9AM to 12PM. Look for the Helicopter
To donate towards the Christmas Trees, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 96 is accepting donations to cover the cost of the trees. Please make checks payable to VVA96 and in the MEMO line put Christmas Trees.

Our December Social will be held onย MONDAY, DECEMBER 2.ย We were notified by the Elks Lodge on 10/25 that they had made an error, and the room was not available on our long-reserved date of December 6. The Board and I hustled to find a different venue that could host us on the originally scheduled date, but we were unable to procure something with this short notice.ย The December dinner social will still be held at the Elks Lodge.ย Fortunately, the musician we had lined up and contracted is also able to perform for us on the new date.ย Please forgive the short notice date change as it was beyond our control, and this was the best alternative unless we cancelled altogether.ย I sincerely hope that you will still be able to attend being this close on the heels of Thanksgiving.ย ย Please RSVP for the December 2 Dinner Social by Tuesday, November 19.ย Call or text me at 850-212-7009.ย
Mark your calendars for our 2025 MOAA Tallahassee Socials/Dinners:ย
Monday, February 10 (for Valentines Day, we will have music, no speaker)
Monday, April 21 โ with speaker
Monday, June 16 โ with speaker
Monday, September 15 โ with speaker
Friday, December 5 โ Holiday social, music, no speaker
Second, we are ready to present the Community Grant funds that we received for Family Promise of the Big Bend to help the Veterans Village.ย The grant request was originally written for the money to go to roof repair.ย It was necessary for us to go back to the MOAA Charities to request to use the money for another purpose because after we submitted the grant request and before we received the funds, the roof was repaired (a good problem to have, right?).ย The money will now be used toward converting living quarters into being handicap accessible.ย We welcome you to join us when the money is presented to Family Promise Veterans Village on Friday, November 8, at 1:00 p.m., at 1602 Stuckey Street.ย The gate code for that event is 03295 (and will be changed afterwards).ย MOAA chapter members have also dropped off food and are in the process of providing bed linen for Queen size beds.ย If you would like to make similar donations, please bring them on to the Vet Village on November 8, or to the 12/2 December Social, or swing by there at your convenience.ย Contact me if you want to coordinate a drop off; we can help you with that.
Next, Iโve recently learned the American Legion has an Oratorical Scholarship Program (thank you, Gail!).ย For students seeking an academic challenge and opportunity to earn college scholarship money, this speech contest is focused on our U.S. Constitution with an emphasis on citizenship. Learn more atย legion.org/oratorical.ย The top award is $25,000!
The Jefferson County community is unveiling a newly named highway in tribute to Major John Haynes, USMC.ย This dedication recognizes his exceptional contributions to our community.ย Please join us Thursday, November 21 at 6 p.m., at the Jefferson County Annex located at 435 Walnut Street in Monticello, FL.ย
Lastly, the unveiling of the VFW Memorial at the Tallahassee National Cemetery is tentatively scheduled for Monday, December 16 at 1030AM.
I hope to see you December 2, at the Elks Lodge.ย Doors will open at 5:00 for an hour to socialize, with brief business starting at 6:00. Mara, our musician for the evening, comes highly recommended by Charles and Ericka, who weโve had the pleasure of listening to at several meetings.ย I canโt wait to see you and hear her.ย
Stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving.ย Be sure to RSVP!ย
