The Coalition has spoken. They want a Commanders Coalition Chili Champion.
When should the Chili Cookoff Championship be held? The only eligible contestants will be from the VSO’s who won their perspective cookoffs during the past year and the winners from the Robert A. Wise Chili Cookoff.
Greetings, Team!
Yesterday’s Legal Clinic at Lake Ella was swamped again: 19 Veterans and several family members in person and 5 Veterans by phone! Our volunteer team totaled 16 (including 4 attorneys) hosted, listened, did intakes, consulted, made referrals and initiated responses to the usual VARIETY of legal issues. Kudo’s to Khalid, Margaret and Exit for distributing the truck and trailer load of food from Quincy Farm Share on Wednesday (for Vet Village and other sites) .
Also on Wednesday, the Commanders’ Coalition hosted dozens of Veteran leaders again (including half of TVLC’s Board members); congrats to Ed Hood for co-ordinating the successful coalitionwork, probably the most well-attended in the state.
More Vets called in again this week or responded online from around the state, and we instructed them to come to Thursday Clinics or, if outside Leon or the State, to look for local Veteran services. Thanks to Susie C. and Omar Guzman-Toro for helping respond to this week’s phone and website calls for help/info (Veterans in prison, NW Fl, etc.). And thanks to Khalid Shafi, Kathy Glasson, and Margaret Deciano for the volunteer administrative work at the computer/files table with Susie throughout our Clinic sessions.
Please let us know about parttime job opportunities for Veterans on subsistence, as well as any emergency housing, shared rentals, etc.
Veterans Treatment Court needs mentors and is in session this Monday 3pm in Courtroom 2E. You are encouraged to come observe since we still need more Veteran Mentors to give one on one contact with the Vets trying to recover from substances or other treatment needs.
What else?
