AFA Bud West Chapter 419 | TVLC | Civil Air Patrol | Girl Scouts

On October 26, AFA Bud West Chapter President Tom Carney attended an awards ceremony honoring Cadet Captain Joel Leroy Johnson, who received the Earhart Award. Fewer than 5% of Civil Air Patrol cadets receive this prestigious award. Also in attendance were Johnson’s father (who presented the award) and Amanda Daughtry, representing Congressman Neal Dunn’s office.
On December 10, Dr. Dennis Baker of the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame Society presented the President’s Medal to Sandra Host, wife of the late Colonel Bruce Host. Many community members and supporters from the coalition were in attendance.

Hi, Team,
Our Legal Clinic this Thursday, December 18, 2025, at American Legion Sauls Bridges Post 13, featured our volunteer Team of 16 this week including 4 attorneys, working with 12 Veterans and family walking in and others by phone; Veterans volunteered with set up, intakes, etc. even though their court-ordered community service requirements have already been completed. (Khalid, Gregory, Leonard). Two others worked community service for court costs obligations.
Leon County Veterans Treatment Court participants volunteered with TVLC both yesterday and today. Yesterday’s truck and trailer load of food was delivered to various sites around the county- Vet Village, Homefront, etc. and was worked by Veterans Khalid Shafi, Chris Bodiford, Tanya Dixon Riley, Gregory Howard, Leonard Bell and Eddie McMillian. (See photo)
Thanks today for two bags of socks donated by local Girls Scouts ( See photos; Kudos to leader, Valerie Colson; and Veteran Shafi will drop them off at Vet Village), and donated Calendars by Patricia Thomas, and food from Mission BarBQ and American Legion guest, Andy Sadlon.

Don’t miss the next LEON VETERANS COURT session: January 12, 3 PM in the downtown Courthouse, Courtroom 2E. Please consider coming to observe/ maybe becoming a Veteran Mentor for the Vets working their way through the program and recovery.
Donations to TVLC from the events above and ongoing supporters are helping Veterans successfully reinstate their Driver’s Licenses, sometimes after years of being unable to lawfully drive. The donations also provide gas for the weekly Food Delivery trips to Quincy for the various Veteran housing facilities around the region.
Call anytime during these holiday weeks, as we will continue responding to email and TVLC hotline calls.
See you at our next walk-in Clinic Thursday, January 8, 2026. Have A Great Holiday Season and New Year!!!.
What else?
