Greetings, team Thursday's Legal Clinic again featured several Veterans volunteering, even though their court-ordered community service requirements have already been completed!(Charles, Shane, Khalid, Chris). In all, our Legal Clinic worked with 18 Veterans and family members, plus 6 Vets by phone, at American Legion Post 13, Lk Ella (Thursday). Our volunteer team totaled 14, including 4 attorneys. Khalid, Kathy, & Margaret volunteered with Susie for the admin support today (front desk and computer records table). We answered various legal questions (housing, civil, criminal, Driver’s licenses, Veteran benefits, etc.), and made referrals to specialists in supportive law firms around town and around the state and in Georgia. Kudos this week to Khalid Shafi, Charles Robinson, Chris Bodiford, and Tanya Riley for the food distribution trip Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, the Commanders Coalition again hosted dozens of Veteran leaders; several TVLC Board members participated, featuring Gordon Lightfoot, who co-chaired the meeting with founder John Folsom (Gordon is key in Tallahassee area Am Vets, Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc., volunteering in constant service to our community). The Coalition has expanded its Weekly reports and special announcements and calendar of events to Veterans even beyond our area, so if you are not receiving those emails, contact Ed Hood at hq@Commanderscoalition.org .
THIS MONDAY: You may want to come to the Leon County Veterans Treatment Court for the next Graduation Ceremony, Monday August 18 3pm in the Leon Courthouse, Courtroom 2E). Please come observe, you may decide to become a volunteer Veteran Mentor for one or more of the Vets in the program. Several Veterans are on track to graduate! Come celebrate with them.
Plans progress in organizing for a Poker Run here to benefit the Tallahassee Civic Chorale, who are sharing the proceeds with TVLC. Save the date: Saturday, October 18. Let us know if you can join in, helping us host the several stops for the Riders that day! Thank you, American Legion Post 13!
This will help TVLC continue to help with Driver’s License Reinstatements, as well as gas money for the weekly food distribution. Volunteer Veterans pick up the food in Quincy and deliver to Vet Village, Homefront, and other Hud Vash low-income locations where Veterans live!
What else?
Thank you,
Dan Hendrickson, for the Tallahassee Veterans Legal Collaborative
