Sorry, friends, for the delay in forwarding these TWO weekly reports from the clinic (I went to the ER 3 times as the month opened, finally admitted for surgery on a torn bladder vein(s), and am still recovering and unable to work or sit much at the computer or sleep). Thanks to all of you who filled in and had 2 successful clinics in my absence.
Kudos these 2 weeks to Khalid Shafi, Charles Robinson, Gregory Howard, & Eddie McMillian for the food distribution trips both Wednesdays, noting an especially long line of trucks when they loaded up in Quincy.
Thursday’s Legal Clinic again featured several Veterans volunteering, even though their court-ordered community service requirements have already been completed! (Charles, Shane, Khalid, Chris see Shane pictured with Margaret in the Tallahassee Democrat plus the picture ofparalegal Nolan Wilson on Page One)). In all, on 9.4.25, our Legal Clinic worked with 11 Veterans and family members, plus 4 Vets by phone/email, at American Legion Post 13, Lk Ella. Our volunteer team again totaled 16, including 5 attorneys. On 9.11.25, our Legal Clinic worked with 12 Veterans and Family members, plus 3 by phone with team of 16 Volunteers, including 4 attorneys.
Khalid, Valerie, Kathy, & Margaret volunteered with Susie for the admin support for both Thursdays, (front desk and computer records table). We answered various legal questions (housing, civil, Driver’s licenses, crypto fraud, family law, Veteran benefits, etc.) and made referrals to specialists in supportive law firms around town and around the state.)
The next Leon Veterans Treatment Court session is Monday, September 22, 3 pm in the downtown Courthouse, Courtroom 2E. Please consider coming to observe/ maybe becoming a Veteran Mentor for the Vets working their way through the program and recovery.
TVLC also added a comprehensive legal research tool recently for our VA-accredited attorneys in order to more thoroughly assist in questions about VA benefits.
Plans are progressing in organizing for the Poker Run here to benefit the Tallahassee Civic Chorale, who are sharing the proceeds with TVLC. Save the date: Saturday, October 18. Let us know if you can join in, helping us host the several stops for the Riders that day! This will help TVLC continue to help with Driver’s License Reinstatements, as well as gas money for the weekly food distribution. Volunteer Veterans pick up the food in Quincy and deliver to Vet Village, Homefront, and other Hud Vash low-income locations where Veterans live!
What else?
Thank you,
Dan Hendrickson, for the Tallahassee Veterans Legal Collaborative
