In my final email this evening, I bring you a personal war story. The year is 2008, and I am assigned to Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa. I’m preparing for a months-long mission supporting Anti-Terrorism Operations. The men and women on the team are composed of Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines.

One day, a Marine on my team stopped me and said,

“Hey, if you ever get on a Marine Helicopter and it's not leaking oil, get off.”

I asked, “Why?” 😕

He responded,

“Because it's out.”
